Our hat is off to salute the 2025 PGA Champion and world number one, Scotty Sheffler who recorded his third Major victory over a field consisting of the world’s best professional golfers.

The Challenge
This year’s PGA Championship was a stellar event that left fans talking and rooting for all who competed in the thrilling spectacle. Held at the prestigious Quail Hollow Golf Club in beautiful Charlotte, North Carolina, both the venue and the players put on a show unrivaled by just about any tournament held yet this year.
The Course
For decades, Quail Hollow Golf Club has stood as a premier destination for championship golf, renowned for its pristine fairways, demanding greens, and storied legacy of hosting major tournaments. Once again, it commanded the spotlight as the venue for the 2025 PGA Championship. Established in 1959, Quail Hollow has earned its place among the most respected courses in the United States. Originally designed by the esteemed George Cobb, the course has evolved through strategic renovations, most notably under the direction of acclaimed golf course architect Tom Fazio. These enhancements have preserved its reputation as a rigorous yet rewarding challenge for the world’s elite golfers. Since 2003, it has been the site of the Wells Fargo Championship, a regular stop on the PGA Tour. Additionally, Quail Hollow hosted the 2017 PGA Championship, which Justin Thomas won, and the 2022 Presidents Cup, further cementing its reputation as a premier golfing destination.

Quail Hollow’s layout is also renowned for its “Green Mile,” a challenging stretch of the final three holes that often plays a decisive role in determining the tournament’s outcome. The 16th, 17th, and 18th holes are known for their strategic demands and have witnessed many dramatic moments in past tournaments. Players need to navigate these holes with precision and composure to emerge victoriously. Indeed, the eventual winner was uncertain entering the back-nine on Sunday, and the “green mile” proved to be decisive in the victory of Scottie Sheffler, who tamed the Green Mile.
Quail Hollow Golf Club’s hosting of the 2025 PGA Championship is a testament to its status as a world-class venue that delivers unforgettable golfing experiences. With its rich history, challenging course layout, and commitment to excellence, Quail Hollow is the perfect stage for one of golf’s most prestigious events.
The Championship
Many articles have been written about the Professional Golfers Association of America (PGA) since its inception; stories that now must number in the thousands over its 109-year history. However, while the actual game of golf and its players have seen many changes in that period, the Association’s goal has remained pretty much the same: to promote the game of golf and provide support and opportunities for its golf professionals, enabling them to compete at golf’s highest levels.
One significant way of support is through their hosting of the annual PGA Championship, one of professional golf’s four major championships. The 109-year-old Championship is one of professional golf’s most prestigious events, attracting the “best of the best” players worldwide. Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson, and Rory McIlroy are all notable past winners, along with Hale Irwin, Brooks Koepka, Rich Beem, and Mark Brooks (the latter two golfers’ only Major wins).
As one of golf’s four major championships, the PGA Championship attracts the best players from around the globe, all vying for the coveted Wanamaker Trophy. Held each year in May, it takes advantage of the mild Carolina Spring weather, which is ideal for both players and spectators.
The Field of Color
As the tournament unfolded, anticipation built for a thrilling ending that would showcase the talents of a diverse field of players, each vying for glory, record books, tour exemptions, and prize money.
The 2025 PGA Championship featured a diverse field of entrants, reflecting the global nature of the sport. Several players of color endeavored to make their mark on the tournament. While there was only one African American, Johnny Keefer, we can celebrate the participation of a number of talented golfers from various ethnic backgrounds, including Asian, Hispanic, and Indian players. Notable among these was veteran Venezuelan PGA Tour player Jhonattan Vegas, who led the field after two exciting rounds of world-class golf, and Chilean golfer Joaquin Niemann, who has also been a standout performer and a PGA Tour winner.
In recent years, the PGA Tour has seen a growing number of players of Asian descent making significant impacts. Names include Hideki Matsuyama from Japan, who became the first Japanese player to win a men’s major Championship with his victory at the 2021 Masters. Similarly, South Korean golfers like Sungjae Im and Si Woo Kim have consistently performed well on the tour, showcasing their skills on the international stage.
Indian golfers are also making strides in the sport. Akshay Bhatia and Sahith Theegala are regulars on the PGA Tour. Their presence in the 2025 PGA Championship added to the tournament’s diversity and international appeal.
The Impact of Diversity
The inclusion of players from diverse backgrounds not only enriches the competition but also inspires a new generation of golfers worldwide. It highlights golf’s universal appeal and the opportunities it offers to individuals from all walks of life. As the sport continues to grow globally, the representation of players of color in major tournaments like the PGA Championship is a testament to the progress in promoting inclusivity and diversity in golf.
