Sahith Theegala is a rising star in the world of professional golf. He was born on January 15, 1997, in Orange, California.
Minority Golf Magazine talked with Theegala at the WM Phoenix Open and again at the Players Championship. Both times, we came away knowing that it was not just a possibility but a profound probability that the 25-year-old would win his first PGA Tour tournament against a strong field that included Major winners and multiple champions.
Theegala began playing golf at a young age and quickly showed promise. After attending Pepperdine University where he played college golf and achieved great success, Theegala turned professional in 2020 and began competing on various tours, including the PGA.
The Fortinet Championship win was a significant milestone in his short career, as it served to showcase his talent and determination. With one round to play, Theegala said, “I feel like I am just scrambling my butt off a little bit.” It was more of the same on Sunday en route to his first career PGA Tour win. Theegala held a five-shot lead at one point at Silverado Resort’s North Course in Napa, California, and kept form with stellar play on the finishing holes—leaving no doubt who was going to win the Fortinet Championship.
Theegala demonstrated poise and patience as he dissected one of the most challenging courses on the PGA Tour. He gives credit for his early success and winning attitude to his dad and a host of family and friends who were there with congratulatory hugs as he sank the final putt for his first PGA win. Later at his news conference, Theegala said, “My dad is the reason I am here today. (Dad) and my mom did such a good job preparing me to play sports and to support me and my passion.” He went on to say, “My dad had my back the whole time and believed in me. He was really hard on me and kept pushing me. He and my mom make a great duo.”
With his strong performance and undeniable skill, Theegala is poised to have a successful career in professional golf. Enthusiasts and fans are watching this young man’s journey and anticipating his future accomplishments.
