Thank you, Malachi and Essie Knowles, for your shoulders on which we stand.

The African American Golfers Hall of Fame (AAGHOF) is a prestigious institution dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the contributions of African American golfers to the sport. Founded by Malachi and Essie Knowles, the Hall of Fame is a testament to the rich history and achievements of African American golfers and others who have achieved high success in golf.
Malachi Knowles, a passionate advocate for diversity and inclusion in golf, and his wife Essie established the AAGHOF in 2004. Their vision was to create an organization that honors the past and inspires future generations of African Americans. The Knowles’ dedication to this cause stems from their deep love for the game and their desire to see it become more inclusive and representative of all who play it.
The AAGHOF is more than just a hall of fame; it is a comprehensive initiative that includes educational programs and community outreach efforts. These programs provide opportunities for young African Americans to learn about and participate in golf, a sport that has historically been less accessible to minority communities. By offering these resources, the AAGHOF aims to break down barriers and create pathways for success in golf and beyond.
One of the key features of the AAGHOF is its annual induction ceremony, which celebrates the achievements of African American golfers, both past and present. Past inductees include legendary figures such as Charlie Sifford, the first African American to play on the PGA Tour, and Renee Powell, one of the first African American women to compete on the LPGA Tour. These individuals and many others have paved the way for future generations and significantly contributed to the sport.
In addition to honoring individual golfers, the AAGHOF also recognizes organizations and individuals who have positively impacted the African American golf community, including golf courses, clubs, and other entities that have demonstrated a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Malachi and Essie Knowles’ work through the AAGHOF has profoundly impacted the world of golf. Their efforts have highlighted the achievements of African American golfers and fostered a greater appreciation for diversity within the sport.

Author Herschel Caldwell, a 2019 inductee into the African American Golfers Hall of Fame, is honored and proud to have been selected among such a group of trailblazers to receive this award.
