HAROLD VARNER III – MOVING ON UP!

Headlines

Although winless on the PGA circuit since his 2016 victory at the Australian Open, Harold Varner III, has continued to move up the 2020 leaderboard ladder.  Last September Varner tied for 19th place at A Military Tribute at Greenbrier, and later that month tied for 17th at the Safeway Open. Several weeks ago, Varner, who turns 30 later this year, placed a lone 13th at the Genesis Open, which finished him “in the money” – Greenbrier’s overall tournament purse was more than $9 million. At the recent Honda Classic, Varner tied for 15th on Day One, shooting even par for an overall score of -1.  The end of the second round found Varner only four strokes back, remaining at -1 and still holding on to a tie for 15th with eight other players.  The next two days proved disastrous for Varner, who finished well back on the third day and wrapped up the tournament at +5, in a 5-way tie for 42nd place (earning him $24,000). Despite his finish, we can expect Varner to continue his steady climb towards another PGA event winner’s circle.

Varner is scheduled to play in next week’s Players Championship, along with Jhonattan Vegas, C.T. Pan, Carlos Ortiz, Joaquin Niemann, Sebastian Muñoz, Collin Morikawa, Si Woo Kim, Sung Kang, Jazz Janewattananond, Tony Finau, Byeong Hun An, and Tiger Woods. MGM will be daily following these men of color, who by their qualifying presence, represent countries from all parts of the globe.

Come back for daily updates on the above players during the Players Championship.
