Bill Dickey Scholarship Board of Directors announced that Last month our new Chairman, Bill Donan, commissioned a task force to establish the feasibility and profitability of hosting the East/West Golf Classic in January or February of 2018.

Where We Are Now:

Based on the East/West Survey, the recent passing of the Chairman, Nathaniel R. Goldston, III and the research done by the task force, the Board of Directors has committed to the following strategy:

The BDSA will not host the East/West Golf Classic in January of 2018.

Why the Board Made This Decision:  In over 30 years of existence, the BDSA is at a crossroads.

It is our sincere desire to continue to support the educational needs of minority youth, as well as promoting the game of golf.  Know that we take the mission, very seriously.  With that in mind, the Board has decided to take a step back and thoroughly evaluate our position and future strategic direction.   To that point, a part of that decision was to postpone the 2018 East/West Tournament, which was scheduled January 12-15, 2018, in Orlando, Florida.  We will however proceed with the junior tournament, the

Bill Dickey Invitational Junior Golf Championship [BDI] June 24-27, 2018 at The Club at Ibis in West Palm Beach, Florida.

We Heard You in Our Survey:

The BDSA will host the East/West event in 2019 in the Phoenix or Scottsdale areas.

 Next Steps:

  • We will establish a 2019 East/West Planning Committee by January 15, 2018, consisting of supporters, board members and alumni to implement feedback from the survey and task force
  • The objectives are to ensure the event reflects diversified demographics, activities and exciting new features that are both enjoyable and profitable
  • Provide more scholarship opportunities for minority students to embrace their dreams through education and the game of golf
  •  Enable supporters to see the impact of their investments and the difference we are making for those students

Our aspiration is for the 2019 East/West event to be one of the most memorable ever.  Stay tuned as we aim to incorporate new elements that will inspire you, your colleagues and friends to join us.

We appreciate your continued support and we look forward to a successful 2018, as we build the momentum for an even greater 2019 event. http://www.nmjgsa.org/

  1. Hello,

I might have missed it. But, where will you be hosting the 2020 Bill Dickey Golf Tournament. We live in Virginia and our son James is a accomplished golfer. He is a junior and consistently started on his HS golf team that went to the State HS Championships 2 of the last 3 years. He has a 4 handicap and longest drive, with a driver has averaged 310yds. We would like to see if he can play in the 2020 tournament, if it does not conflict with our golf tournaments and college visits he has this year. Would appreciate it it you could let us know the eligibility and when and where the event will be held’
    Regards,

    Jim
