O’Neal turned professional in 1997 and has been making waves in the golfing world ever since. O’Neal has competed on various tours throughout his career, including the PGA Tour, Web.com Tour, and Advocates Professional Golf Association Tour (APGA). Asian Tour; Alps Tour; EPD Tour; PGA Tour Latinoamérica, and now PGA Tour Champions Tour, where he leads this week’s tournament, the Regions Tradition in Birmingham, Alabama, tied in the lead with Billy Andrade at five under par. O’Neal has won numerous state opens and mini-tour events.
In 2019, following the destruction of the historic Black golf course, Lincoln Park in Oklahoma, a group of Black pro golfers from the Advocates Professional Golf Association (APGA) staged a protest and demonstration at the United States Golf Association’s headquarters in Far Hills, asking for more recognition, inclusion, and resources within the sport. Tim O’Neal was among the pro golfers who led the protest and spoke up on behalf of the Black community. O’Neal’s success has made him a role model for aspiring golfers everywhere, especially young Black golfers who aspire to play on professional tours. O’Neal has consistently advocated for diversity, equity, and inclusion within the golf industry, which is still perceived by many as a sport for the elite. In addition, O’Neal gives back to the community through various golfing programs and initiatives. He has established junior golf programs and has spent countless hours mentoring young, aspiring golfers, regardless of socioeconomic or racial background. Tim O’Neal is a true inspiration and a trailblazer in the golfing world. He has not only achieved significant success on the golf course but has also become an advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion in the sport. His passion for the game and unwavering dedication to giving back to the community has made him a true role model for all aspiring golfers of color.
