Denver, CO – June 10, 2011 – The oldest, largest and most diverse golf association in the Western U.S. will bring their annual championship tournament to Broomfield, CO from June 21-25, 2011. Western States Golf Association was founded in 1954 and represents over 30 organized golf clubs, with approximately 1300 members located in six states.

The 57th Annual Championships will bring together over 300 golf enthusiasts, at all skill levels, in a 54-Hole Stroke Play Championship being held at three of the Region’s finest golf courses. The competitions will take place at the Omni Interlocken Golf Resort, Willis Case and City Park Golf Courses.

This is the final year the tournament will be hosted in the Denver area. In 2013, the tournament will move to Reno, NV for the next three-year commitment. According to Tamera Baxter, WSGA President, “The Denver community has been an outstanding choice for hosting the tournaments. This year will conclude a highly

successful, three year run for the Championships. We look forward to coming back in future years.”

The WSGA Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held on Friday, June 24th to honor nearly six decades of contributions to bring equity and inclusion to the game of golf. The WSGA Hall of Fame has inducted many

leaders to this distinguished group of honorees. Al Avery, Tournament Director, stated, “WSGA Championships have attracted an estimated 800-1000

competitors and guests to the Denver community for each of the three annual tournaments."

Baxter reflects on WSGA, “WSGA was founded to encourage greater diversity of participation in the game of golf. Today, WSGA continues to support junior golfers from all over the Western U.S. to enjoy the game and to further their education to the next level. We are proud of WSGA's fifty-seven year history of major

accomplishments!”

Avery commented, “After all, golf is a lifelong sport! We have men and women members competing this year who range in age from their early 20’s to late 80’s!”
