THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (Dec. 21) – Vijay Singh birdied the last hole Sunday to edge Steve Stricker by one shot and win the $5.75 million Chevron World Challenge Presented by Bank of America at Sherwood Country Club.

Singh closed with his second consecutive round of 67 to claim the $1.35 million winner’s check and the tournament trophy given to him by host Tiger Woods.  Singh, 45, also won the PGA TOUR’s Fed Ex Cup and ended the year on a high note.

“I don’t want the year to end, I can tell you that,” Singh said.

Stricker’s four-under 68 was nearly enough, but he fell short, despite a 32 on the back nine.  Jim Furyk, who led after the first two rounds, made a double bogey at the 18th for the second day in a row and fell to a tie for fifth with Camilo Villegas at five-under 283.

Anthony Kim shot a final-round 73 and tied for third with Hunter Mahan who had a 68.

Singh put a new driver in his bag during the week and it paid off.  He had six birdies and one bogey and was more than satisfied with his performance.

“I played really well,” he said.  “I hit the ball very good off the tee and I think the key for this golf course is keeping the ball in play.”

Woods, who gave Singh the trophy in an awards ceremony on the 18th green, said the 10th version of the tournament that benefits the Tiger Woods Foundation came off flawlessly.

“The week was a huge success again,” said Woods, who said he estimated ticket revenue of close to $2 million.

Tiger Woods Foundation
Since its inception in 1996 by Tiger Woods and his father Earl, the Tiger Woods Foundation has reached an estimated 10 million young people through character development, career exploration and grant making programs.  Programs developed and supported by the Tiger Woods Foundation all share a similar mission of empowering young people to dream big and to set specific goals to achieve their dreams.

Launched in February, 2006, the Tiger Woods Learning Center is an innovative 14-acre, after school campus designed to inspire career exploration. Serving members in grades 5 through 12, classes include forensic science, robotics, engineering, aerospace, video production and marine biology. Tiger’s Action Plan—based on Earl Woods’ best-selling book, Start Something—is a free program for youth 8-17 that addresses three priorities: character education, volunteer service and career exploration. Through participation in TAP, youth define a specific personal goal and develop an action plan to achieve it while giving back to their community and exploring careers that fit within their areas of interest.
