By Herschel Caldwell   The game is believed to have originated in Scotland as early as the 15th century, and was imported to the U.S. in 1888.  For many years, the sport was the exclusive province of wealthy, Anglo-Saxon males, but in recent years, the passion for playing golf has sparked what some would call a spiritual revival among the “baby boom” generation.
